Breaking Dawn’ update: some really big names in the bunch for directors

One of the things Twilight fans most look forward to is that moment when the reality that The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn is coming to fruition sets in.
Well, Entertainment Weekly has a very interesting new bit of insight as to the last bit at least and reports that a decision as to which filming location will be chosen is still in the works.
According to them, at least three, very high profile directors have been vetted for the post of directing the fourth portion of the Saga.
“Sources tell EW that the studio has reached out to at least three top-notch directors, including Sofia Coppola (Lost in Translation), Gus Van Sant (Milk), and Bill Condon (Dreamgirls) to gauge their interest in what is likely to be two movies.”
A lot of folks speculated that the news would come after a successful showing for New Moon, but it makes sense that announcement of this sort of magnitude would be held off until The Twilight Saga: Eclipse has had its day (or weeks, months) in the theater.

Chris Weitz will not direct Breaking Dawn
The Twilight Saga: New Moon director Chris Weitz taking on a producer role in American Pie 4 came about, but the possibility that Weitz could still helm The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn lingered on.
That is, until the Gossip Cop confirmed that Chris Weitz will not be coming back for the movie.
“Gossip Cop has received official confirmation from Chris Weitz’s rep that he will not be directing the film(s).”
GC points out that the decision remained with Weitz on this issue.
“Ultimately, it was Weitz’s decision . . . We’re also told Summit is currently looking at top-tier directors to helm the final “Twilight” film(s).”
So, despite the vested fan interest in seeing Chris Weitz reprise his spot behind the Breaking Dawn camera, it appears that he will not.
Thoughts?

Michael Sheen ‘will likely return’ for ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn’

Adding the list of actors who have expressed an interest in returning for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn is Michael Sheen, who portrayed “Aro” in The Twilight Saga: New Moon.
Apparently, despite the fact that his resume spans two decades, his daughter Lily has only just become a fan of his work. Prior to New Moon, Sheen had done Frost/Nixon, The Queen, The Damned United, the Underworld series, and more, but Lily didn’t quite fit the demographic of viewership for those projects.
“Having spent years and years doing films in which she had no interest in whatsoever, either because she couldn’t watch them because they’re too scary, or she didn’t want to watch them because they’re too boring,” Sheen says, “now to be able to do films that are slam-bang in the middle of what she’s interested in, it’s fantastic for me as a dad.”
It seems that this growing tradition will continue, too, if Sheen reprises his role in Breaking Dawn. As you know, only a portion of the “Volturi” is present in Eclipse, and “Aro” is not one of those who journey to Forks, Washington in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. Some worried that with the absence of certain characters in Eclipse some of the actors might move on and not return for Breaking Dawn. Of course, the same was true for Sarah Clarke (“Renee”) from Twilight who was not present in New Moon but did indeed come back for Eclipse.

Breaking Dawn’ in 3D?
Over the course of the past few months, a great many conversations have been had about the various potential efficacies of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn.
Of course, the primary debate has been (at least recently) over whether the story would be made into one or two films . . . and, though a seemingly reliable indication of the latter option being chosen was issued this week, the studio has assured fans that there is no official decision on the matter just yet.
Nevertheless, a new, very interesting conversation was begun by The Hollywood Reporter this week as well about whether the film (or films, perhaps) would be in 3D.
“3D or not 3D, that is the question,” presents THR, who states that “The halls of Summit are also alive with the parallel potential of filming the last film — or films — in 3D.”
As you already know, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is treading into IMAX waters, and a movement by Breaking Dawn into the third dimension would not be incredibly off the progressional mark.
Of course, there are already disagreements on the issue, reports THR. “Some [fans] are already begging Summit not to do it.”
Of course, the studio has yet to officially announce whether the film will be one or two much less whether the film will be 3D, so, as of now, it’s sheer speculation.
Still, the report brings an interesting question . . . should The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn be 3D?

Breaking Dawn Will Be 2 Movies!

Money talks in Hollywood and Summit Entertainment will be following in the path of The Hobbit and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by bringing The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn in two parts. That’s right folks, The Twilight Saga will stand at least five films strong.
Breaking Dawn is the largest of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series and it comes as no surprise that Summit is taking this route. We knew from reports late last year after the success of New Moon that they were considering breaking it into two and now it’s confirmed.
One of the hurdle’s in making this happen was bringing back all of the key cast members as they were only contracted for four movies (that and re-negotiating with Meyer). We can assume that they’ll each be getting massive paydays for this but Summit doesn’t care; they can make these films fast and cheap and make a ton of cash very easily to pay them. Heck, New Moon broke the records for largest single-day sales and Friday opening.
Melissa Rosenberg has been working on the script for Breaking Dawn and now must work on making two, with the first having some sort of appropriate semi-conclusion or cliffhanger/lead-in into part two.
The biggest concern about Breaking Dawn is the challenge of adapting its graphic and adult content to the big screen for a crowd of fans that contains a big portion of very young individuals.
Summit’s only issue with their future plans of the Twilight franchise was the lack of source material to build from. This is one solution to get an extra feature out of it and after that it’ll be up to spinoffs.
How do you feel about the last movie being split into 2?
