New Moon Director Promises Eclipse Will Be ‘Steamy’
Chris Weitz, who directed New Moon, the second installment in the Twilight series, says he has read the script for this summer’s third installment, Eclipse – and that one scene in particular is a scorcher. “I’m looking forward to the sleeping bag scene, I gotta say,” Weitz tells PEOPLE. “That’s going to be very steamy.”
In Eclipse’s fan-favorite “tent scene,” – spoiler alert! – a freezing Bella, who is on the run from evil vamp Victoria, gets a warm-up from werewolf Jacob when he squeezes into her sleeping bag – while a jealous Edward looks on. Weitz also says he is eager to see Edward’s vampire “parents,” played by Elizabeth Reaser and Peter Facinelli, sink their teeth into Eclipse’s more intense action.
“I voted for her of course, because she’s my homie,” says Weitz, adding that New Moon – which is being released on DVD and Blu-Ray March 20 – would have been up for more awards if the Academy had a different voting body.
“If only the Academy were composed of teenage girls, I might be looking at a Best Picture nom,” he joked. “It’s a scandal that there are not more teenage girls in the Academy.”

KRISTEN STEWART TALKS MARRIAGE PROPOSAL & BATTLE SCENES
MTV caught up with Kristen Stewart last night at the premiere of her movie The Yellow Handkerchief and took the opportunity to ask her a few questions regarding the upcoming Eclipse.
Stewart had some apprehensions about shooting that scene. She didn’t want the scenario of two teens, one being a vampire who happens to be many years older than his facade of 17, deciding to marry one another to look silly or unbelievable.
Stewart said she had to find an emotional space that allowed her to make a teenage engagement seem plausible. “I wanted to be, like, ‘Oh! Wow! I would say yes too!’ You know what I mean? So I don’t know how you do that. You try to do it for real, and it felt good. I hope it turned out alright.”
Also, she talked about what she hopes to see in the Eclipse Trailer
Stewart did have an idea of what she’s eager to see in the trailer for the third “Twilight” installment. “Oh, my gosh! There’s a really cool thing that happens on a cliff with Jacob that should definitely be in there,” she explained. “Battle stuff. I would say the [newborn vampires]. The newborns are going to look awesome.”
Stewart said she has yet to see any footage from the David Slade-directed movie, which finished filming in October. “I haven’t even done like [automated dialogue replacement],” she said.

Xavier Samuel talks about his Eclipse’ fame
.jpg)
This June, Xavier Samuel will have not just one but two films reach theatrical release. The first is The Loved Ones, which will first make a stay at SxSW before being released in Australia on June 1st. The second, obviously, is The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, releasing June 30th in the United States. In Eclipse, Samuel portrays “Riley Biers.”
While doing a promotional interview for The Loved Ones, Samuel got the chance to talk a little more about how being a part of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse has affected his life.
“Has being cast in the next ‘Twilight’ film (‘Eclipse’) changed your life?” the interviewer asks.
“It’s kind of strange to me really because I haven’t seen it. It’s kind of like, it seems a bit bizarre that they’re taking my photos. The film hasn’t even come out yet. It’s funny because on the way up here, there was like a crowd of people outside, and I hear this ‘Who are you?’ ‘ Are you famous?’ You know, they’re just like, I think the celebrity thing is such a bizarre phenomenon, you know, that it’s kind of like, you know, it’s intoxicating or something, people just want to be around to see for the sake of it. But you know that kind of attention, while I haven’t kind of been under the microscope the same way that a lot of the other cast have, I think it’s still possible to lead a reasonably normal life. I kind of feel like sunglasses are a little bit of a security blanket for me, I feel a bit naked if I step out without them,” Samuel reveals.

Eclipse’ director David Slade adding more Robert Pattinson to the film
Last week, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse director David Slade let everyone know that the film was in “phase 1″ of “director’s cut” screenings with the film studio, Summit Entertainment.
Today, David Slade confirmed the fact that edits are now happening, saying “Cutting like crazy, the film is getting closer working through the weekends again, adding more EDWARD!”
Adding more Edward (portrayed by Robert Pattinson)? Probably a good idea. While The Twilight Saga: New Moon was expected to have less of “Edward Cullen” in the picture and more of the werewolves (namely, “Jacob Black” by Taylor Lautner), Eclipse is – literally – a different story.
Back in December, Slade promised fans that “Edward seems to be a really strong presence, the intensity of the love story & rivalry between Jacob is in the driving seat,” but he also stated that there was a “great state of balance” and that “it’s all even with the action sequences.”
Looks like the studio cuts are beckoning the weight of the balance to favor the relationship end . . . maybe? Any other thoughts on the message?

Eclipse’ predicted not to fare as well as ‘New Moon’ in the box office
A lot of people in the film industry have quite famously opined that The Twilight Saga: Eclipse has a better chance of blowing up the 2010 box office by sheer temporal positioning than did The Twilight Saga: New Moon in 2009.
That is in part due to the fact that New Moon was the only one of the top ten biggest box office openings which did not debut during the summer.
Here’s what Box Office Mojo has to say on the issue:
Odds are that Eclipse won’t reach the heights of New Moon, given the history of closely-timed, serialized sequels. The Matrix Revolutions, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End and even Back to the Future Part III all grossed significantly less than their predecessors. When a second movie is hotly-anticipated after the first movie’s success, it’s highly unlikely that the next picture will even maintain the momentum (The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter being notable exceptions), and signs from New Moon’s run suggest that The Twilight Saga will follow the pattern. New Moon had one of the biggest openings of all time, was extremely front-loaded and probably wasn’t as well-liked as the first Twilight: Box Office Mojo readers gave it a “C+,” compared to the first movie’s “B.” Also, the vampire fad could show fatigue by the summer, given the flood of vampire-themed TV shows, movies and paraphernalia in the market.
Twilight series fans have certainly proven their staying power over the past few years. The books started coming out roughly five years ago, and the buzz surrounding the series only grows deeper and more defined as time progresses.
Another point to consider, and this is more against BOM’s analysis than anything else, is the fact that a large amount of Twilight’s audience consists of young adults. A summer release for this demographic would be helpful to them seeing the film (given that school wouldn’t be in session).
While BOM certainly goes against the grain and raises some interesting points, it’s not altogether convincing that Eclipse will not fare as well in the box office as New Moon.
What do you think?
