‘Twilight’ series boosts sci-fi/fantasy sales in the U.K.
Millions have read Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series books. That’s a fact which has escaped the attention of no one . . . especially not within the publishing world.
According to the U.K.’s Telegraph, the Twilight series has been not only a boost to book sales at large but also to the particular genre of sci-fi/fantasy.
“Britain’s love of sci fi, in particular Twilight has contributed to a massive boom in sales of the sci fi literature, which is great news for the industry as it is encouraging the all important demographic of young readers back in to reading.”
Of course, critics of the series who have suggested that the Twilight series does not have the effect of putting books back in the unlikely reader’s hands would eat a little crow upon hearing this news, wouldn’t they?

Stephenie Meyer responds to ‘Breaking Dawn’ controversy gossip
.jpg)
Yesterday, there a line of talk that began at E! News about the controversy between Stephenie Meyer and Summit Ent. over The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn.
Well, the news stops here, Stephenie Meyer took it to her website and addressed the topic herself by making this statement:
“Just a quick note on the subject of the Breaking Dawn film: there is no drama over whether the book should be one movie or two. My personal feeling is that it would be very difficult to cram the whole story into one movie (as I’ve said in many interviews previous to this), but if a great way of doing that surfaces, I’m all for it. Two or one, whichever way fits the story best is fine by me, and everyone I’ve spoken with at Summit seems to feel the same way. We’re all excited to move forward on this, and we are slowly and surely getting there. I know people are anxious for news, and so sometimes gossip get fabricated to stir things up, but there’s no basis to this particular story.“-Steph

Breaking Dawn Update: It’s Meyer vs. Summit!

Though there is still no set director for Breaking Dawn because no one can decide on whether on having one movie or two, it seems there that mastermind Stephenie Meyer and Summit have different agendas on what they feel should be done.
“Stephenie is calling the shots,” our mole tells us, “and she still can’t decide whether or not [making two movies] is the right thing to do creatively.”
Deep Twi insists that everything—including splitting Breaking Dawn into two films—is run by Meyer (after all she penned the friggin’ thing).
“Both sides have very different agendas,” ‘fesses our insider.
See, here’s the breakdown…
Stephenie doesn’t need the money, so what does she care? It’s double the work to split this film up.
Adds our source:
“Meyer isn’t in it for the fame. She hates doing press, and she doesn’t want to be recognized for anything other than her work, so what’s her incentive to drag [the book] out?”
Of course, we’re assured she does want to please the fans, but isn’t four films enough?
How many films do you think Breaking Dawn should be?

Happy Birthday to Stephenie Meyer

Today, the author of the Twilight Saga celebrates not only the Holiday season but her birthday as well.
Meyer intially wrote Twilight as a way of “spending time in this fantasy world.” Little did she know, it would turn into a mutli-million dollar franchise in modern literature. Ever since her name became much more than a household name. Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series has become a groundbreaking film franchise (with Twilight, The Twilight Saga: New Moon and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse already complete).
Throughout it all, Meyer has maintained her composure as she serves as a fascinating role model for those interested in the world of writing.
So again, Happy Birthday Stephenie Meyer!

‘Eclipse’ Is Coming In June, And Here’s What We’re Hoping Will Sell It To A Wider Audience

Since the release of New Moon this November, fans are already gearing up for the third installment of the series. Eclipse which will be released in theaters in June of 2010, critics haven’t had the same appreciation for the vampire romance. In a recent article from MTV, they put together a list of suggestions to help make the film better for everyone.
Amp up the Bella and Edward romance
“Twilight” established the potent romance between Bella and Edward, but “New Moon” sacrificed much of the chemistry for the sake of Bella’s growing bond with Jacob. Granted, the reason why Edward was mostly absent during “New Moon” was because he broke up with Bella and was moping around in an apartment for months on end, but Chris Weitz forgot to reestablish why exactly Bella and Edward were so in love. With “Eclipse,” we hope David Slade explores their connection, especially with so many fans jumping ship to Team Jacob after seeing Taylor Lautner’s abs.
Make the fight scenes more action-packed
Yes, we understand that a lot of care went into making the CGI werewolves in “New Moon,” and thank goodness the fight scenes in the second “Twilight” installment were better than the first, but the final battle in “Eclipse” is the most action-packed part of the entire “Twilight Saga.” With David Slade’s previous vampire film “30 Days of Night” under his belt, we can expect some intense action, but we’d like to remind him we want to see some newborn vamps being torn limb from limb anyways (and not just in slow motion).
Make the film more appealing to a non-”Twilight” audience
There are a lot of elements in “Eclipse” that could attract an audience not made up solely of Twilighters. In “New Moon,” there was no effort spent on setting up the story from the previous book or explaining why Bella and Edward are so in love. “Eclipse” was the book that made Stephenie Meyer’s vampire series what it is today, and hopefully “Eclipse” the movie will break the film series out to a larger audience as well.
For anyone who read the book knows that Eclipse is filled with a lot more information about the love triangle, Bella becoming a vampire, and the battles against one another. Hopefully Hollywood does it’s justice and doesn’t leave anything out of order.

Twilight:It’s just entertainment!
For many Twilight fans, there are also those who “hate”, “loath”, or even “despise” the series. Since the second movie came out this past November, there have been a lot more “bashing” going around the series. Circling around the internet, there are probably a number of blogs, stating how horrible Twilight is and how “unreal” it is. After reading a number of these articles, I figured I’d write in response to all these “hatred” blogs.
First of all, Twilight is Science Fiction folks! It’s not real, and neither is it meant to be. The author, Stephenie Meyer wrote the books for entertainment purposes that’s it. Recently, I saw an article called “10 Reasons YOU Hate ‘Twilight” and after reading all the reasons why people dislike Twilight, I couldn’t help but to share them with you as well.
“The really creepy thing is all the older women who are obsessed with New Moon. Thirty-year-old women lusting over a 17-year-old boy [Taylor Lautner] is creepy. Moms asking Twilight kids to sign their breasts? I am totally baffled by this.”
“I hated the movie Twilight — terrible acting, terrible ’special’ effects, terrible writing, etc. I wanted them to make Twilight into a movie when I first read the book, but now I wish it had never been put on the big screen.”
“Twilight had bad acting, horrible makeup, cheesy stare-downs and god-awful effects. At least New Moon had less stare-downs.”
Yes, I understand Vampires don’t sparkle, and Bella is too depressed for her own good, and Native Americans don’t turn into wolves but that’s the joy of entertainment, it obviously makes for good t.v. Everyone has their own opinion and that’s completely fine but I find it amusing that people can sit there and bash it when it’s just another media craze we’ve fallen into, just like the harry potter series and others before that.
